Rutland Surgery, Kinning Park, Glasgow

This long awaited scheme to provide the new Rutland Surgery in Kinning Park, Glasgow commenced on site in October 2010, comprising a 505 sqm medical practice building, and 92 sqm of separately accessed office units, including a new regional office for Apollo Capital Projects

Rutland Surgery has served the local population since 1941, and the current Practice Manager took over the role from her mother in this closely community focused project. The only available site within a tight practice ‘red line’ boundary presented numerous challenges including site assembly, multiple planning applications and a landmark Lands Tribunal case to clear the title.

NHSGGC and the Practice had identified the need for new premises as the existing premises were functionally obsolete and comprised 50% of current space standards.

The surgery is being constructed in what Apollo would regard as its Scottish heartland, enabling Apollo to make use of its long established and value driven local supply chain.

Key Features

It was important to the client that the development of Rutland Surgery delivered an investment in, and engagement with, the local community. Apollo put in place processes that continually assessed opportunities that benefit the local community and economy, including:
• A Glasgow based Contractor & Design Team;
• Emphasis on local trades/suppliers to be introduced as far as possible;
• A local charity ‘Bullwood’ was provided with felled trees from site, which were
then recycled into furniture for the centre;
• The environmental and interior design was aimed to give a ‘sense of place’.
